There are three types of millet Grains:-

Positive Millet Grains
Positive millet grains have dietary fiber ranging from 8% to 12.5%. Positive millets have numerous health benefits as they have the highest dietary fiber. Examples are Foxtail millet (Kangni), Barnyard millet (Sanwa), Browntop millet (Korale/ chhoti Kangni), Kodo millet (Kodra), and Little millet (Kutki)

Neutral Millet Grains
Neutral millet grains have dietary fiber between 3% and 6%. They have fewer health benefits than positive ones but do not harm the body anyway. Examples are Pearl Millet (Bajra), Finger Millet (Ragi), Proso Millet, and Sorghum Millet.

Negative Millet Grains
Negative millet grains have a dietary fiber of less than 2%. They are less beneficial for the body and difficult to digest by the body. Examples are rice and wheat. Avoid them.
My breakfast fruit bowl of the day. I take four to five types of fruits. Fruits are Best for breakfast. Preparing a fruit bowl for breakfast is an art. Today I picked up an apple, an orange, one banana, four medium size Ber (Ber is Zizyphus), three dates, two walnuts, five almonds and a piece of coconut giri (meat).

The sequence of cutting depends on the type of fruit - the hardest variety goes first and the softest are the last. The nuts and dry fruits go in for the dressings. The fruits must be cut in a size that can be eaten one at a time.

Golden Rule - Drink your fruits and eat your juices.

I took 20 minutes to eat this bowl. Picking up each piece at a time and chewing till it turned liquid in my mouth. This helps in digestion and the fruits are digested in an hour in our stomach.

We use hundreds of creams daily for our face. Shaving cream, shaving foams, shaving gels, face wash, face scrub, sun screen, fairness cream, anti-pimples, anti-wrinkle, cream for oily skin, cream for dry skin, antiseptic cream, multipurpose cream, magic cream......I can actually compile a separate dictionary for face creams. They all are anti-face creams due to chemicals used in their manufacturing.

The lust for such creams is so high that companies flood the market to fullfil our desires. Words like -  Ayurvedic, patanjali, natural, organic and homemade are added to these products to fool us. There are a few genuine manufacturers too but the question is - Why do we require them?

Whenever a dangerous side effect of a product is occurs, we find that it is seldom reported and even if it is reported in India the money power suppresses such incidents. So the general public is always unaware of harmful side effects of such products.

Add to this the magical gimmick of chain marketing presented by these companies in the garb of women empowerment. I will not name the companies, we all are aware how housewives are targeted with buisness opportunities by these companies and offered discounts in the name of direct marketing. We end up buying such products from relatives or friends. Even if the product is bad we are unable to report it because we care and love our relatives/friends who sold us the product.

We all want to be beautiful and handsome. So what do we do.

Be smart and intelligent, stay away from chemicals laden creams.

Shaving Creams

We have been fooled since the advent of TV that a foamy and sweet fragrant shaving cream is liked by Kapil Dev to Virat Kohli. Hence the first choice of our shaving cream is those big brands in pressurised cans. These gels and foams are full of artificial scents of chemicals.

"दूधो नहाओ पूतों फलों।" This is the blessings of our elders since times immemorial and we in India have grown up hearing this. What it means - may you bathe in milk and be blessed with grand children.

Milk is the best shaving cream. Take two spoons of milk, add a pinch of turmeric powder and a teaspoon of cream or malai. Take this in a palm and using hands rub this milk on the face for one minute. You will experience the smoothest shave of your life.

You are Vegan and off dairy, take one spoon of edible coconut oil, add a pinch of turmeric powder and use this as shaving cream.

Don't use scented hair oils as they contain chemicals. Any edible organic oil can be used. Turmeric powder makes it antiseptic.

After shave take a piece of alum or phitkari and just rub it on your wet face. You will forget using those fancy after shave.

Start gradually and make your life chemicals free.

Chemicals: Face Creams

We all want baby skin. Baby's skin is soft, clean, glowing, beautiful, charming......I can use the complete oxford dictionary and still not be able to pen everyone's thought on good skin. We all love to be beautiful and handsome (mild sentence).

The face cream buisness thrives on this obsession. There is no harm in this obsession, but what is wrong is the quick fixes,  indoctrination of our minds by TV, radio, banners, magazines, newspapers, etc assuring us magic in one to 15 days. One has to win over this first.

Babies possess the best skin because firstly they don't worry and secondly they are unaware of McDonald, KFC, Domino, etc. They don't worry about diets because mother's milk is a BALANCED FOOD naturally.

So the prime pre-requisites of good skin are happiness and healthy balanced lifestyle.

Our skin is the largest organ of our body. Healthy skin is sign of a healthy body. Our body eliminates toxins which are byproducts of food that we eat. Skin is one such organ which our body uses for toxin elimination. That is why our elders have always made us wash our face after an outing, before eating, before sleeping, after getting up and as often as necessary. Every celebrity has only one free advice for glowing skin - DRINK ADEQUATE WATER.

Due to the pollution our air, water and food has changed. We need to help our skin to enable it to perform it's prime function of toxin elimination. Now if we use a cream which has been purchased primarily due to the quality of fragrance, we would do more harm to our skin.

So what do we use.

1. Water. Drink 2.5 litres of water daily. Wash your face by chill water. Add 2-3 cubes of ice to a mug of water and wash your face. In winters too wash with cold water and warm water alternatively 2-3 times.

2. Breathing. Deep breathing for only 5 minutes will add a glow to your face instantly. Exhale completely and hold your breath for as long as you can, inhale for 3 seconds, completely exhale and again hold your breath for as long as you can. Do this for five minutes.

3. Milk. Pick up any cosmetic cream and check the ingredients. You will always find milk as one of the ingredient and the rest are some salts or fragrance or base to make it a paste. Why pay 100 times more for adulterated milk when one can use it directly. Take a cup of milk, add one spoon of coconut oil, one teaspoon of turmeric powder, mix it and you have your natural face wash and soap. Add the natural rose water, flower extract or your choice of essential oils. Dry skin - add more oils, oily skin - add a spoon of baking soda. Throw away your soap cases and get a soap tray about one feet by one feet with about six inches high sides. Place all these ingredients and make your soap daily.

4. Exercise. Incorporate aerobic exercises or morning walks in fresh air into your daily routine. Keep your skin breathing. The life of each cell in our body is three months. Every month one third of our face cells are changing. Identify these cycles, spare extra time during these days to your face. More exercise, more washing, more water.

I can list numerous things but wanted to keep it simple. This is to motivate you to make a beginning. Once you set sail on this natural path, you will find more options.

Don't throw away those expensive face creams, but pledge to stop investing in them for a month. Try this for a month and experience the difference. Give your face a break from chemicals.

We have developed our taste buds for cooked food by use of spices. The taste governs our choice of food - dal makhani, dal fry or dal tadka. So I preferred using the word tadka to spice up our raw fruits and vegetables. Every home has a small accomplishment prepared with normal food to enhance the taste like pickles, papad and chutney. In the restaurant we have things like dressings, hummus, dips, etc. We will combine all these fancy names into one - Tadka.

1. Roasted and crushed walnuts, almonds, flaxseeds, sesame, pumpkin seeds, dried coconut, groundnuts, arhar dal, black gram, etc. Build your list as per your taste.

2. Chutney - This is my best tadka. One can blend any taste into it. These are some base ingredient

  • Hara dhaniya
  • Pudina
  • Kari patta
  • Moringa leaves
  • Green chillies
  • Red chillies
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Tomato
  • Kabuli chana soaked
  • Kala chana soaked
  • Apple
  • Carrot

3. Use any one of the above and mix ingredients as per your taste. The following are few suggestions.

  • Dal chini
  • Hari illaichi
  • Kali mirch
  • Kali illaichi
  • Sukha dhaniya
  • Lal mirch

4. Fruits - Eating fruits for one week is never a problem. The inhibition may start when you make shift to fruits only breakfast. Ideally we pick up four different colours of fruits and make a bowl. The following may be added.

  • Soaked dry fruits.
  • Nut milk.
  • Dalchini powder.
  • Hari illaichi powder.
  • Fresh juice.
  • Honey.
  • Sesame seeds.
  • Flaxseeds.
  • Pumpkin or magaj seeds.

5.  Taste is an experience built by us to the right food. Since the taste is consciously developed by us, we can develop it again. At birth nature wants us to be greedy and eat more food to develop our body. Our body fully develops at an average age of 25 years. Now we need to stop being greedy and eat only for maintenance of our body. Tadka will help you to achieve this transition. The best Tadka is a Green chutney. Make it using any available green leaves. Simplest of all is, take a cucumber. Blend half of it in a blender and add the rest as small pieces.

6. Tadka for 7 Days

Dry Fruits - almonds -28, walnuts-14, raisins70, pumpkin seeds-70gms, flax-seeds70gms, groundnuts-100gms, sesame seeds-7 teaspoons, magaj-7 teaspoons, dry coconut grated-14 spoons.

7. Chutney - Choose your day. These can be the base and add tomato, garlic, ginger, green chillies, fresh lime and blend it. These ingredients are always part of our weekly purchases.

  • Hara Dhaniya
  • Nariyal
  • Pudina
  • Palak/available local green
  • Red Chillies
  • Garlic
  • Ginger

8. Please finalise the menu for Tadka as per your palate and compile the shopping list. My recommendation for seven days-

  • 1. Hara dhaniya - 7 small bunches.
  • 2. Pudina - one bunch.
  • 3. Ginger - 250gms.
  • 4. Garlic - one pod.
  • 5. Coconut (giri) - one and dry - one.
  • 6. Lemon - 7.
  • 7. Almond - 28.
  • 8. Walnut - 14.
  • 9. Dates - 21.
  • 10. Magaj + pumpkin seeds - 100gms
  • 11. Sesame seeds - 7 spoons required, 100gms as may be used for fruits and salads too.
  • 12. Ground nut - 500gms.

(THESE ARE JUST A SUGGESTION)

9. Sprouts - Sprouts add a crunchy flavour to our salad. Best is moong beans sprouts. So today and tomorrow is the day. If you have whole green moong dal at home do it today or even tomorrow will be fine. Sprouting is very simple if you don't ask anyone.

  • 1. Take a katori/bowl of moong dal. Roughly one handful is good for a week.
  • 2. On first sight you may feel that one handful is less, this is natural. Don't increase the quantity.
  • 3. Wash it thoroughly and soak it for 24 hours. Change water once after 12 hours.
  • 4. After 24 hours strain the water and store it any container(if perforated available use it) and cover it with a wet cloth.
  • 5. Keep rinsing and straining water as per your convenience every 6-7 hours.

That's it. Within 4-5 days you will have sprouts. If you smell something odd, rinse and strain is the magic that works.
We regularly get our Motor Cars serviced to enhance there efficiency. Similarly one must regularly do detoxification of the body. The digestion mechanism of our body needs to be cleaned to enable proper absorption of nutrients from the food. Food that we eat is primarily carbohydrates, proteins and fats. The nutrients required by the body are not in a state wherein they can be directly absorbed by our body. Hence the body metabolism breaks down the food we eat into healthy nutrients that are required by our body. In doing so there are many toxins which are by products. Sometimes our auto immune system is unable to flush them out and thus they may harm us.  There are numerous ways to do it.

Every time I searched the Internet, I always got confused with the different methods. I kept trying all methods and finally adopted a very simple one. Water is very essential part of our body as it is the medium which helps in all the metabolism. A simple Cucumber Detox can be made.

Steps for Cucumber Detox

1. Slice a washed cucumber without peeling into circular slices. Take 4-5 cucumber slices and put it in water (Preferably a glass jug with lid). Allow it to marinate overnight.

2. To prevent cucumber slices to float, use a skewer or fork to keep them submerged.

3. Yours next day's water consumption must be from this jug only. Every time you drink water fill this jug again with water. Change the slices of cucumber ever 3-4 hours.

Using these steps with different fruits/vegetables I have made a seven days detoxification guide for myself.

A Simple Seven Day Detox

Day 1 - Cucumber.

Day 2 - Ginger. Wash an inch of ginger with skin and slice it as thin as possible.

Day 3 - Fresh Coriander/dhaniya Leaves. Wash and cut the roots of 4-5 stems. Tie them and put it in the Jug.

Day 4 - Lemon. Wash a lemon and cut circular slices with skin. Use half lemon.

Day 5 - Orange. Wash an orange/malta/keenu and cut circular slices with skin. Use two slice.

Day 6 - Fresh Mint/Pudina. Wash and tie 4-5 stems put it in the Jug.

Day 7 - Fresh Basil/Tulsi. Wash and tie 4-5 stems put it in the Jug.

Breakfast

The best breakfast for a diabetic patient is fruits. God has been kind and he made the selection of fruits easy by making them in different colours. Select four to five different colours of fruits and prepare a bowl for breakfast. If you are on diabetes medication then 60% of your fruit bowl must contain citrus fruits. There is no restriction of any fruit, one may choose papaya, mango, chikoo and the best is the seasonal fruit. One may have up to one kilogram of fruits before 12 O'clock noon.

Sugar in fruits is natural and body absorption is simple. Refined sugar is broken down by body in two or more processes into sugar which can be useful. Natural sugar is absorbed in a controlled manner by the body whereas the refined sugar goes uncontrolled into blood. Refined sugar is hidden in numerous processed foods and ready-made beverages, whereas fruits are visible and thus enable us to control sugar easily.

Person on diabetes medication will have to eat more fruits to satiate in the beginning because of diabetic medicines. Naturally eating one kilogram of fruit in one sitting is not possible. To start with make two bowls of fruits. Eat the first bowl at about 8 AM and eat the second at 11 AM. Point to note here is to give three hours gap between these two helpings. Second important point to note is - the total quantity of fruits that an individual consumes must be up to one kilogram or less than one kilogram only. When I started eating fruits for Breakfast I used to eat about 900 grams of fruits. Since I was on diabetic medication I had to eat more to satisfy my hunger. Today I can make do with just two bananas and an apple or orange with increased energy levels.

How to Win Over Initial Hunger Pangs

  1. Drink your fruits. While eating fruits for breakfast chew them to the extent that they become liquid in your mouth. A medium bowl of fruits must be consumed in 20-25 minutes. By doing so we assist stomach in digesting the fruits faster.
  2. Cut small pieces and use a fork to pick each piece - one at a time.
  3. Soak 15 to 20 raisins in water for 4 to 5 hours in water. Strain the water and store them in a handy container. Eat one raisin at a time whenever you feel hungry and chew it till it becomes liquid in your mouth. One can have up to 20 raisins in a day.
  4. Split your fruits in two helpings. Have one helping around 7-8 AM and second helping after three hours around 10-11 AM.
  5. Drink 1-2 glass of water after one hour of having fruits.

Dressing up The Fruits Dress up your fruits with them and let eyes too feast upon them. What's beautiful and tasty is always better for health.

  1. Almonds - six (soaked in water overnight).
  2. Walnuts - two (soaked in water overnight).
  3. Dates/Prunes - three.
  4. Coconut Meat/Giri. Add a piece of coconut meat/giri about two inches. This acts like catalyst for all breakdown of food in our body.
  5. All nuts and seeds must only be consumed after having soaked in water.
    • Hard nuts like almonds and walnuts - 10 to 12 hours overnight.
    • Soft variety like cashews and seeds - 4 to 5 hours.

If you start fruits only for breakfast, within a week you will notice a wonderful change. However there is someone within you shouting - Is this my life? Don't listen to that voice. Just carry on, remember it takes 21 days to change habits. Best healthy food stays for lesser time in stomach. Fruits remain in our stomach for one hour and eight hours in our body. Animal protein being complex remains in our stomach for 4 to 6 hours and in our body up to 72 hours.

All and any fruit can be eaten. As mentioned earlier natural sugar never interferes with body functions, it's the refined sugar which causes problems. The selection of acidic or alkaline food matters only when a deficiency or excess of a nutrient exist in the body. For diabetes ideal fruit is citrus fruits. The problem occurs when you consume even one spoon of sugar. The body is lazy and consumes refined sugar first. So remember refined sugar is poison for a diabetic patient.

Eating Fruit on Empty Stomach

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat the fruits. What is the correct way of eating fruits?

  1. It Means Not Eating Fruits After Your Meals.
  2. Fruits Should Be Eaten On An Empty Stomach.

If you eat fruits on empty stomach, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so due to the bread taken before the fruit. In the meantime the whole meal of bread & fruit rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil. So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach.

You have heard people complaining - Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet. Actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying of other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat. Graying hair, loss of hair, balding, nervous outbursts and dark circles under the eyes all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach. There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans, packs or bottles. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get its taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the fresh fruit juice, drink it sip by sip slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. Best is to eat your fresh fruit juices and not to drink them.
See—not just look at, but truly see—the colors in front of you.
Listen—not just hear, but actually listen—to the sounds around you.
Feel—not just touch, but verily feel—the ground beneath you.
Breathe—not just inhale, but really breathe—the air around you

for example when accidentally your phone slips from your hand, your world shifts to slow motion.

You can’t name the intensity, but it’s so overpowering you can almost taste it as you reach for the plummeting device. Everything is more vivid: the colors are louder, the sounds are brighter, your movement, at least for this split second, mimics the grace of a ballerina.

You are completely in the moment, alert, fully aware of the world around you as the gadget nosedives toward its cracked-screen fate.

Then, suddenly, it’s over. You catch the phone at the last possible second, the panic subsides, and your world speeds up again, covering everything with an opaque layer of dullness, thrust into the prison of daily routine. In a meaningful way, you become less aware—less free.

But it’s possible to channel that same level of awareness on demand, isn’t it?

we need only pause and intentionally slow down the world around us.

See—not just look at, but truly see—the colors in front of you.
Listen—not just hear, but actually listen—to the sounds around you.
Feel—not just touch, but verily feel—the ground beneath you.
Breathe—not just inhale, but really breathe—the air around you.

When we recapture this level of awareness, that is when we experience real freedom.

Practice meditation, be one with the Master. Live In the moment. Discover thy self !

Milk and Milk Products
I come from the land of milk - Vrindavan. I have grown up with tales of Maakhan Chor and the great Gwaala - The Lord Krishna. The place is also famous for its delicacy like Pedas. So when I learnt that milk is bad for diabetes, it came as an unpleasant surprise to me. Absolutely, I was not ready to accept it. This led to some study and  I searched the Internet intensively. More then it's genesis what surprised me the most was the scientific study. The prime cause of Type I Diabetes in India is Cow's milk. The advertisements proclaiming that calcium present in milk is good for health turned out to be a malicious deception. Patanjali Sutras and Ayurveda Writings too state that only children below three years have the imperative macro-molecular biological catalysts to break down milk wholly. Barring for a few regions in the globe, milk is predominately difficult or impossible to digest for the greater number of adults. The undigested milk is mucous-forming and causes lassitude. Yes, milk has traditionally been believed to be a good source of calcium, but there are several other good sources as well.

Genesis: World War II

We've become so far removed from the source of our food that many Americans are oblivious to where most of what they eat is actually coming from, dairy included. Yes, milk comes from cows. And how do cows get milk? Like other female mammals, they produce milk to feed their offspring. In the business of raising cows to produce as much milk as possible, which is the goal of most of the U.S. dairy industry, cows are kept in perpetual states of lactation and impregnation.

While a small number of dairies are bucking the industrial trend, the vast majority of dairy products we eat come from factories that are nothing short of horrific in many cases.

Under healthy conditions, it's not uncommon for a dairy cow to live between nine and 20 years while being productive in the herd, said Halverson. While many cows can even live to 25 years, today's dairy cows don’t even come close to that. "They are living two or three years and being culled," she said. The next stop from there is to live out the remaining days alongside beef cattle awaiting slaughter at a feedlot.

But the largest surge in so-called productivity came decades after WWII. "It was the 1970s when the dairy industry really started ramping up milk production. Cattle before the 1970s were healthy, normal dairy cows, they didn't have issues with lameness, mastitis (a painful udder infection), and reproductive problems in huge amounts. All that selective breeding and milk demand has made the Cow a much more fragile animal.

Infant formula was invented by Henri Nestle in 1860, but it didn’t actually become popular until the 1940s. The main cause for this sudden increase in popularity was World War II. Before the war the vast majority of women were homemakers who stayed home with their children and left the jobs to the men. As the war continued, women were called to the workforce to support their country by doing the jobs that men who went overseas to fight had left behind. In fact, the number of women in the labor force increased 210% from 1940 to 1985. It was this sudden desire and ability for women to leave the housewife life behind that formula companies saw and capitalized on by starting huge advertisement and free sample campaigns to normalize bottle feeding and, of course, get rich in the process.

World War II is Responsible for the Decline of Breastfeeding in the US

Improved communications, especially printing, enabled intensive commercial promotion of artificial milks. Financial support of hospitals and physicians by manufacturers also hastened the decline in breastfeeding. Milk manufacturers also began campaigns in other countries to bring our “better” and “safer” method of feeding babies.

Once women were proving themselves in the workplace as equals to men feminism was born. Especially in the 1960s feminists encouraged women get away from their babies and start living their lives. It’s ironic that feminism, the concept of women supporting each other, actually created a situation where women who chose to stay with their babies and feed them naturally were looked down upon and even shamed for being anti-progressive to women’s rights. As a consequence, we ended up with a widespread loss of understanding of its importance and a declining ability of health professionals to support it. It was the perfect opportunity for formula companies to aggressively advertise and slip money into the pockets of doctors.

If a diabetic person is offered a cup of milk and a cup of sugar, with a rider that he/she may choose either of them. The myth is that he/she will pick up milk, I will advise sugar. Milk and milk products are more harmful to a diabetic person than sugar.

Milk has a protein - Casein, which naturally is animal protein. This makes it complex and has a structure which has an odd pair of DNA. The plant based proteins are even pairs of DNA. This complexity leads to a situation when body is unable to break down this protein in stomach and it enters the intestine. Here due to this it start inflammation in intestine. This manifests to a mortal situation and body auto immune system gets activated thus producing an antigen to breakdown casein. This antigen is is programmed by the body to breakdown odd number of DNA configuration of casein. Unfortunately insulin which controls sugar level in our body is also odd pair DNA configuration. This causes insulin also to breakdown.

If you recollect from experience, when an infant is introduced to milk other then breast milk the first reaction is that infant throws up everything. So it means everyone drinking milk should be diabetic. No. What happens is that pancreas increases production of insulin. A stage comes when pancreas gives up. This stage varies from person to person. The primary cause of Type I diabetes in India Cow's Milk.

Suppose if the entire domesticated population of India which produces milk is taken into account and their daily production is one liter of milk; you will be surprised to know that that the daily milk production of India stands at four liters a day. Hence 75℅ production of our country's milk is artificially made. Secondly the fodder today is contaminated and each animal is heavy injected with chemicals to increase milk production. The choice is yours whether you want to drink chemical or avoid it. Animal milk substitution - Peanut milk, Almond milk.

To Sum Up
Milk (A Systematic Review of the Clinical Evidence) is poison number one for diabetes.
Animal milk is for the calf. Calf is ethically the rightful owner.
The artificial insemination of animals to increase the milk production is inhumane practice.
Commercialization of milk has led to unnatural practices like killing the calf immediately after birth.
The production of milk is four times more than the actual production of milk as per existing domesticated animals. We are being fed chemicals.
The chemicals in the fodder and use of injections to increase productivity is Unnatural and thus rendering milk unsafe.
Stop Processed Milk and milk products which include cheese, butter, paneer, curd, ice-cream, ghee, butter milk.

Refined Products

Have you ever seen Amitabh Bachchan advertising the benefits of cinnamon or ginger, No but you see him with Masala. I saw this ad recently while a visit to a friend's office today. All they do is throw garbage in our minds. Just watch ads on TV. They are either about food or beauty care. Every alternate ad is about food. Any food in natural form has a short shelf life and commercially non viable. So to make profit food is refined to increase the shelf life. These businesses increase the shelf life for profit and decrease our shelf life.

If you buy a car and the dealer provides you with a spare wheel. Imagine if he doesn't give you a jack and a spanner, will you feel safe driving this spare wheel around. This is exactly what happens with refined food.

Refined Atta World over the number one reason for obesity is refined wheat. Maida, burger, bread, pizza, noodles, pasta, cakes and suji are refined wheat products. In the market ask for whole wheat bread. Compare the cost and shelf life of this bread.

Refined oil All refined oil are harmful for diabetic patient. Any oil the moment it is heated loses most of the benefits. Fats is a necessity for our body. We can get the required fats by eating nuts, peanuts, sesame and seeds. Flax-seeds are very good. Roasted flax-seeds can be added to fruits and salads.

Refined Sugar Sugar is the primary source of energy for the body, hence is the basic necessity for us. So why does the excess causes problems? The infrastructure of our body is unable to transport this excess and a logistics problem manifests in our body causing Diabetes.

Carbohydrates : It is the most important source of energy found in every food you eat. However all the carbohydrates are not same. To understand, let's take four varieties of food containing carbohydrates or its simpler version i.e. sugar as glucose or fructose. Carbohydrate from different sources dissolves in blood differently as shown in the illustration given below. The sugar from cold drinks or other beverages and breads, cakes, biscuits, shoots into the blood which means it is fast acting. However the sugar/carbohydrate from the fruits, drops into the blood and that from raw vegetables seeps into the blood which means slow acting. 'The slower, the better'. The food are ranked on the basis of its carbohydrate action with the blood. It is called the Glycemic index or Glycemic load. To understand the mechanism and the concept of Glycemic load let's take a hypothetical example. Imagine you have one glass of fresh apple juice (squeezed just now) and one glass of Tropicana packed apple juice and lets further assume both are having same amount of sugar (in reality Tropicana on an average has 8 times more sugar, that too in refined form). Now imagine two persons with exactly same body parameters including BMI, age, fasting blood sugar level, HbA1C and the metabolism rate. The person A drinks Tropicana and person B drinks fresh apple juice.

By now you already know that the blood at any point of time can hold only a limited amount of sugar (glucose), about 1 gm per liter of blood. Beyond that it can additionally have 50% tolerance in either direction. Any uctuation beyond that range will lead to lot of catastrophic effects including formation of AGE, weakening of heart, overload on kidneys and also damage to many sensitive organs, including eyes, brain and even pancreas itself (as it plays a major role in the control of blood sugar in the body). Person A : The moment he drinks Tropicana juice (packed fruit juice), instantly the sugar will shoot through the intestinal wall into the blood vessels irrespective of the amount of sugar already present in the blood stream. The sugar from the packed fruit juice may appear identical chemical-structure-wise in comparison to the sugar from fresh apple juice, but is different behavior-wise. It acts unpredictably and is highly undisciplined. Such sugar is never considerate or friendly to the body. Person B : He is the consumer of the freshly squeezed apple juice. The sugar in this form is highly disciplined and law abiding. Imagine a scene of a law abiding citizen crossing a 62 road. He will take into account the circumstances, understand the traffic ow, consider the distance he needs to travel to cross the road and mentally adjusts his travelling speed with ever changing speed of vehicle approaching him. It involves very minute calculations and no super computer of the world can perform it to the perfection as the human mind performs, that too effortlessly, day after day. This is one of the important skills which we have inherited, a must for our survival. The fresh and living juice also works in the similar manner. They are like a human brain which enters the body and before crossing the internal wall and entering into the blood stream considers various factors including the amount of sugar already present in the body. Conclusion : Broadly speaking, the blood sugar control of the body does not depend much on the amount of sugar or carbohydrates you have consumed, rather it is more dependent on the source of carbohydrates.

Food that needs to be avoided can be remembered with an acronym - MRP.
1. M is for milk and milk products.
2. R is for refined products like oil, salt, sugar, maida, suji, etc.
3. P is for packaged packet food. Such foods are full of preservatives which impede our metabolism. Golden Rule -  If you open a packet or tin to eat something don't open it. Biscuits, Haldiram products, ham, sausages, etc.
One of the important necessity of healthy life is sunlight. Winters are devoid of sufficient sunlight due to numerous reasons, one of the prime reason is that Earth is farthest from Sun and about start the journey towards the Sun.

Milk

To Sum Up
  1. Milk is poison number one for diabetes.
  2. Animal milk is for the calf. Calf is ethically the rightful owner.
  3. The artificial insemination of animals to increase the milk production is inhumane practice.
  4. Commercialization of milk has led to unnatural practices like killing the calf immediately after birth.
  5. The production of milk is four times more than the actual production of milk as per existing domesticated animals. We are being fed chemicals.
  6. The chemicals in the fodder and use of injections to increase productivity is Unnatural and thus rendering milk unsafe.

Carbohydrate from different sources dissolves in blood differently as shown in the illustration.

Any Fluctuations beyond that range will lead to lot of catastrophic effects including formation of Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs), weakening of heart, overload on kidneys and also damage to many sensitive organs, including eyes, brain and even pancreas itself (as it plays a major role in the control of blood sugar in the body). Imagine a scene of a law abiding citizen crossing a road. He will take into account the circumstances, understand the traffic, consider the distance he needs to travel to cross the road and mentally adjusts his travelling speed with ever changing speed of vehicle approaching him.

Here are some of the best essentials oils for anxiety:

1. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Considered the most common essential oil, lavender oil benefits include having a calming, relaxing effect. It’s considered a nervous system restorative and helps with inner peace, sleep, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, nervous stomach and general nervous tension.

2. Rose (Rosa damascena)

One of the benefits of rose essential oil is it’s very settling to the emotional heart and perhaps the second most popular after lavender for relieving anxiety and depression, helping with panic attacks, grieving and shock. In study of women who were pregnant for the first time published in the Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal, one group of women was received a 10-minute inhalation and footbath with oil rose, another group received a 10-minute warm-water footbath, and they were compared to a control group. The findings showed “aromatherapy and footbath reduces anxiety in active phase in nulliparous women.”

3. Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)

Vetiver oil has a tranquil, grounding and reassuring energy, often used in trauma helping with self-awareness, calmness and stabilization. A nervous system tonic, it decreases jitteriness and hypersensitivity and is also useful in panic attacks and shock. A study published in Natural Product Research examining the anxiety-like behavior in rats concluded that vetiver oil may be useful in lowering anxiety effects, though more research is needed to confirm this finding.

4. Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)

This popular essential oil can treat anxiety and depression due to its calming and uplifting effects. Ylang ylang helps with cheerfulness, courage, optimism and soothes fearfulness. It may calm heart agitation and nervous palpitations and is a moderately strong sedative, which can help with insomnia.

In a 2006 study conducted by Geochang Provincial College in Korea, using ylang ylang oil, along with bergamot and lavender oils, once a day for four weeks reduced “psychological stress responses and serum cortisol levels, as well as the blood pressure of clients with essential hypertension.”

Be careful when using ylang ylang, as it can be sensitizing or irritating to the skin; avoid using in conditions of low blood pressure.

5. Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)

Bergamot is commonly found in Earl Grey tea and has a distinctive floral taste and aroma. Bergamot oil is calming and often used to treat depression by providing energy; however, it can also help with insomnia induce relaxation and reduce agitation.

It’s been proven to reduce corticosterone response to stress in rats, and another interesting study conducted in 2011 hypothesizes that applying blended essential oil that includes bergamot to participants helps in treating depression or anxiety. The blended essential oil consisted of lavender and bergamot oils.

Compared with the placebo, blended essential oil caused significant natural ways to reduce blood pressure and pulse rate, and participants in the blended essential oil group rated themselves as “more calm” and “more relaxed” than the control group.

Bergamot is generally safe, but it is photosensitizing, meaning it can increase the risk of sunburn and rash. It is best to avoid use within 12 hours of sun exposure.

6. Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)

A peaceful, calming scent, chamomile benefits inner harmony and decreases irritability, overthinking, anxiety and worry. An explorative study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine on the antidepressant activity in chamomile found that this essential oil “may provide clinically meaningful antidepressant activity that occurs in addition to its previously observed anxiolytic activity.”

Another study published by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health found that chamomile capsules have been shown to ease anxiety symptoms. Chamomile oil is generally safe, except for a some small risk of allergy, especially with anyone who has an allergy to ragweed.

7. Frankincense (Boswellia carteri or boswella sacra)

Frankincense is great for treating depression and anxiety because it provides a calming and tranquil energy as well as spiritual grounding. In aromatherapy, it helps deepen meditation and quiet the mind.

Mixed with bergamot and lavender oils in a 1:1 ratio in an aroma hand massage, frankincense was found to have a positive effect on pain and depression in hospice patients with terminal cancer in a Keimyung University study in Korea.

How to Use Essential Oils for Anxiety

Essential oils can be used in three different ways: aromatherapy, ingestion or topically.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for anxiety is very popular because our sense of smell triggers powerful emotional responses. We process so much information through our sense of smell — in particular, in an area of the brain adjacent to the limbic region, according to “Freedom from Anxiety: A Holistic Approach to Emotional Well-Being” by Marcey Shapiro and Barbara Vivino. This is the area of emotional processing and memory recall.

When the scent of an essential oil is inhaled, molecules enter the nasal cavities and stimulate a firing of mental response in the limbic system of the brain. These stimulants regulate stress or calming responses, such as heart rate, breathing patterns, production of hormones and blood pressure. Aromatherapy can be obtained by using it in a bath, as direct inhalations, hot water vapor, vaporizer or humidifier, fan, vent, perfume, cologne, or — one of my favorites — through aromatherapy diffusers.

Oral Application

Many essential oils can be ingested by the mouth; however, it is critical to make sure that the oils you use are safe and pure. Many oils on the market may be diluted or blended with synthetics that are unsafe for ingesting. The Food and Drug Administration has approved some essential oils generically for internal use and given them the generally recognized as safe (GRAS) designation for human consumption.

The most effective way to consume them, according to “The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils: The Science of Advanced Aromatherapy,” is to add a drop of oil in a glass of water or in a teaspoon with honey. You can simply add a drop or two underneath the tongue. This is beneficial because the blood capillaries are so close to the surface of the tissue under the tongue, allowing them to pass more quickly into the bloodstream and travel to the different areas of the body where they’re needed.

Other oral application options include capsules, adding a drop or two to your favorite beverage, making a tea, and cooking.

Topical Application

Many prefer topical uses of essential oils. Topical application is a process of placing an essential oil on the skin, hair, mouth, teeth, nails or mucous membranes of the body. When the oils touch the skin, they penetrate rapidly.

Since they are so potent, it is important to dilute and blend with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond, jojoba, olive, avocado or coconut oil. You can apply the blend directly to an affected area, on the bottoms of the feet, rims of the ears, using compresses, in baths or through massage.

Common Toothpaste Chemicals

Five of the most common chemicals to watch out for include fluoride, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, and DEA.

1 – Fluoride. The chemical most commonly found in toothpaste is sodium fluoride (also just labeled as fluoride). Although fluoride is touted as an important defense against tooth decay, it can also be harmful if ingested even in moderate quantities. Thus, many natural toothpastes (especially those marketed to children) are fluoride free.

2 – Triclosan. Despite being classified as a pesticide, triclosan is commonly added to toothpastes and antibacterial products. The Environmental Protection Agency has openly stated that the chemical poses a threat to humans and the environment. So why is it in our toothpaste?!

3 – Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. SLS is added to many personal care products for its cleansing and detergent properties, despite being a potential eye and skin irritant. It is also potentially carcinogenic when combined with other common chemicals.

4 – Propylene Glycol. Propylene glycol acts as a wetting agent and surfactant in toothpaste. The substance is found in many conventional toothpaste brands despite being linked with brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities with repeated exposure. Make sure it’s not in yours!

5 – DEA Diethanolamine, or DEA, is a commonly used foaming agent. It has also been linked to cancer formation and hormone disruption with repeated exposure. Maybe that toothpaste doesn’t really need to be so foamy.

But fortunately, the bright side is that the market has exploded with natural toothpastes in recent years! With and without fluoride, whitening and traditional, and even some fruity flavors for those who don’t like (or can’t use) mint…there is now an effective, natural toothpaste for every taste and purpose. So ditch the nasty, scary, and health-compromising chemical pastes and go natural.

All toothpastes contain some amount of chemicals. We have got so used to brushing our teeth that without it we feel uncomfortable. So what is the substitute.

Tooth Brush: Always use good quality brush. Start using Neem Datuns once in a week. These are freely or easily available to us. With datun one has to just chew it and the natural extract cleans the whole mouth. Ideally do oil pulling before it.

Toothpaste: The best tooth powder is turmeric powder. Take 100gms of turmeric powder, add one spoon of black salt, one spoon of baking soda. Mix all and your natural powder is ready. If you wish to use it as paste, add coconut oil to make it a paste.

Organic ingredients are best.

Almond milk - benefits and recipe

Almond milk is a healthy and inexpensive alternative to conventional dairy that you can easily make at home! Statistics show that many people are choosing dairy free milks and other products due to allergies, concerns about sourcing or just taste preference.

Why Make Almond Milk?

Like virtually every other food or drink, almond milk is both less expensive and healthier when you make it yourself. While there are decent store bought brands available now, many brands contain additives like carrageenan to remain shelf stable and a keep a consistent texture.

Almond milk is a low glycemic alternative to rice milk, and doesn’t cause problems with hormone levels like soy milk does. It can be used in place of regular milk in recipes and baking. It is easy to make and has a light taste.

We used almond milk when we were working on reversing our son’s dairy intolerance and I still often use it (or homemade coconut milk) in recipes, coffee or to drink simply because it is so inexpensive and easy to make.

If you are dairy-free (by choice or necessity), making your own almond milk is a great way to save money and avoid additives. As a bonus, you can use the leftover almond pulp to make almond flour for use in recipes! If you are nut free as well, coconut milk is another good alternative.

Simple Homemade Almond Milk Recipe

This almond milk recipe is super-simple to make at home in just minutes! It is customizable so you can adjust the sweetness and even add flavor, plus it is naturally dairy-free, paleo, vegan and all around delicious!

Ingredients

1 cup almonds - (Organic and raw preferred if available- I use these)
4 cups pure filtered water (plus more for soaking)
tiny pinch of sea salt
For Vanilla Almond Milk: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1/2 vanilla bean, scraped
To Sweeten if Desired: Sweetener of choice including 2 dates, 2 Tablespoons maple syrup or a few drops of stevia of choice (omit for an unsweetened almond milk)

Instructions

Optional Step: Soak almonds for at least 12 hours in pure water with 1/2 tsp sea salt. This is an important step as it breaks down the phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors and cultures beneficial enzymes in the almonds. The longer the almonds soak, the creamier the finished milk will be. (Side note: soaking nuts should be done before eating them as well. )
Rinse almonds well. Drain the soaking water and rinse the almonds well. Do not keep this water to re-use as it contains phytic acid and is best to discard it.
Add optional ingredients. If using vanilla, sweeteners or any other optional ingredients, add them now. See the notes below for some flavor suggestions.
Blend well. Mix almonds with pure water in blender or Vitamix. Blend 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy. (Warning: mixture will expand some, so make sure your blender is not full before starting it)
Strain almonds. Strain mixture into a large bowl through a sprout bag, cheese cloth or thin kitchen towel.
Store. Pour into glass jar or pitcher and store in fridge for up to four days.

Notes

Reuse the Pulp: Save the pulp of the almonds, put on cookie sheet and dehydrate in oven on lowest heat until completely dry. Run through blender or food processor to make almond flour, which can be used in recipes in place of flour. Alternately, just store in the refrigerator for use in baking or smoothies.

Flavor Variations: Add 1/2 cup strawberries for strawberry almond milk, 1-2 Tablespoons cocoa powder for chocolate almond milk or any other flavor you can imagine!

Imitation Store Bought Almond Milk: This recipe will produce a creamy almond milk that is much better than store bought almond milk (in my opinion). Most store bought milks only use 2% almonds so they are low calorie but you're essentially buying water in a box. If you prefer this type of almond milk, you can reduce the amount of almonds to 1/4 or 1/2 cup and use the recipe above.

How do you start your day.

Oil Pulling

Concept - All micro-organism enter our body through nose via breath or mouth via food. If the micro-organism travel to lungs or stomach they are destroyed immediately by our body's immunity. So these smart micro-organism stay in our food pipe, wind pipe, nose, ears and mouth. Here they get nourished by the food we eat and reach a level of proficiency where they can fight our immunity system or survive in acidic stomach environment. This period varies in each micro-organism and is called incubation period. Oil Pulling is a method to trap these micro-organism before they incubate.

Principle - These micro-organism require food, oil is the best food for them. Remember Dadi maa warning of not drinking water after eating oily food. With oil these micro-organism are able to even reduce incubation period. So the principle is to bait them with oil, trap them and throw out of our body. Oil also inhibits them from travelling back to food pipe as they lose the ability to hook on to the inner layer of our mouth.

Time - one may do oil pulling any time during day, however the best time is first thing in the morning followed by brushing your teeth.

Oil - Sesame oil is best, one may use coconut or desi ghee too.

Method - Take one spoon of oil, move this oil between your teeth and mouth by swishing it with the help of tongue. Do this for 20 minutes. Initially do for 5 minutes and gradually increase to 20 minutes. After 20 minutes this oil becomes a deadly chemical bomb. If you throw this in the garden of your home, all your members will get I'll because these micro-organism are fully loaded and incubated. Always throw the oil after oil pulling into the commode and flush immediately.

A simple deep breathing half an hour daily works miraculously. Four seconds inhalation and 11 seconds exhalation constitutes deep breathing. This is so easy in today's environment as we all have watches and mobile apps to do so.

However in ancient times our intelligent ancestors did it even without watches. Chanting mantras or reciting prayers have had healing effect from times immemorial. The basis of such healing was deep breathing achieved due to chanting and prayers.

The most simple and common mantra Om is one such chanting for deep breathing. Om is a mantra which is formed by three basic sound. These three basic sound are like three primary colour which give birth to rainbow. These three sounds are - Aa, Oo and Mm.

I am in no way trying to profess any religious affinity, only elaborating ancient sound technology for deep breathing.

Anything bitter in taste is also not acceptable by our body and is thrown out as soon as possible. Mother nature at its best.

So why do we take bitters. Any bitter fruit or vegetable when eaten has this affinity with toxins in our body and attaches them to itself. The body when throws out these bitter in the form of urine or stool, the toxin clean up is side effect.

This is the reason why most of the bitter vegetables and herbs are diruetic. For example fresh coriander, bitter gourd, mint and basil.

When to have it. Ideally first thing in the morning. That is why all greens are recommended in the morning.

Citrus fruits, curry leaves, mint, fresh coriander, karela, torai, amla, tamarind, cholai, red amaranth, dill, giloy, moringo, etc. The list is endless. Always source local and seasonal.

Remember Moderation is the key.

For all people including diabetics this is one of the suggested holistic routine.

1. Oil pulling and start the day with greens.
2. Exercise for half an hour.
3. Fruits for breakfast.
4. Snacks - Four almonds, two walnuts, three dates, 20-25 raisins and handful of groundnuts.
5. Lunch - Salads, one bowl dal, one bowl vegetables, one bowl rice and two rotis.
6. Snacks - Puffed rice with onions Tomatoes green chillies and chat masala.
7.Dinner - same as lunch.

Quantity may be more in the beginning to satiate, but slowly will reduce over a period of three months.

Fasting Once a week go on only fruits.

Meditation twenty minutes once a day.

Sleep After dinner be awake for two hours before going to sleep.

Drink 2-2.5 litres of water daily. Multiply your weight by 0.03 and you get the ideal water requirement per day in litres.

Donate as per your wish to the needy. Even ₹10 if you give, give it to someone you don't know. Gifts to Parents, spouse, children, maids and friends is not charity. Give it to someone whom you don't know and will never meet him/her again, only then it's charity.

I sometimes feel that Diabetes is a spiritual disorder.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
Swami Vivekananda

In diabetes each cell wants more and more fats, though fully filled with fat. So unless one reduce eating  and starts exercising to burn fats, the psyche of each cell remains of only accumulating fats.

The moment one changes lifestyle and starts exercising the psyche of each cell changes from accumulating to giving.

In spiritual world happiness too is only in giving. So if you start giving happiness, start caring for others, love your surrounding and always help others, you may teach each cell of your body to give fats instead of accumulating. This will mark the beginning of diabetes reversal.
